Darby's translation of Ephesians 4 pretty much captures my own understanding of my own role in these recordings. The head of the Church has given specific enablings in order to build up the saints. It is then the role of the saints to fulfil the work of the ministry and build up the body of Christ. His continuing gifts persist down the centuries and will continue 'until we all arrive...' The classifications are not hierarchical positions nor are they ever used in the scriptures as 'offices or titles'. They are more in the style of job descriptions. In that sense, and no other, I would regard myself as one of a company of 'shepherds and teachers'.

My style is 'pastoral teaching'. Most of my contribution to this library has arisen simply from a desire to 'feed the flock' in 'due season'. In other words, this is not academic teaching but teaching which has been delivered to meet perceived needs. For the most part, they are delivered to listeners with whom I have a long association, hence the playful humour at times. Often they are the preacher's own answers to his own heart questions!

From time to time someone will say, "I heard one of your tapes in... Mongolia, Tanzania, Poland, Spain". My response is always one of awe. The preacher is much more conscious of his frailties than are his listeners and those who teach carry heavy responsibilities. The responsibility however is not all one way. The listener too must be sure to 'search the scriptures daily' to see 'if these things are so'. The Lord bless you as you listen and search.
